After nine months of thick lustrous hair, are you noticing more and more hair in your hairbrush? When you run your fingers through your hair, is it all coming out on your hand? Does your bathroom floor or sink look like a barber shop floor? Did you just have a baby a few months ago?
If you said yes to all these questions, YOU have postpartum hair loss. All kidding aside, temporary hair loss is quite normal in the postpartum period. During pregnancy, you may not have noticed, but your hair did not fall out of your head at its normal rate. You also may have missed the fact that your hair grew quicker than usual.
The increased growth of your hair was related to the surge in pregnancy hormones. Who knew hormones could do so much? Now that those hormones have diminished, your hair is getting its much needed rest. Basically, your body is balancing itself out again, as your hair is working to get to the same texture and consistency it was before pregnancy.
Understandably, you may be feeling anxious about the amount of hair you’re losing. Just remember, there were nine months of hardly any hair loss, and your body is just making up for lost time. This temporary hair loss is nothing to worry about, as it usually only lasts from 3 – 6 months postpartum before your hair is back to normal.
