Going Back to Work While Nursing? Find a Good Breast Pump

If you are going to continue nursing when you get back in the work force, you are going to need a good breast pump. Breast pumps (lucky for us) have come a long way since the days of manual pumps. Now you can choose from electric pumps, double breast pumps, pumps with milk storage, and more. Here is what you will need in a pump if you are going back to work:

  • Electric pumps work the best and are the quickest. This also is much easier for you. The easier it is to pump, the more likely you will stick with it. Electric pumps use a vacuum system to pull your milk out into attached bottles. A good electric pump will simulate as well as possible the sucking patterns of your baby.
  • Double pumps are necessary if you don’t have a lot of time at work to pump, which is the case with most moms. Using a double electric pump, it is possible to empty both breasts within 15-20 minutes.
  • Cooler for milk storage. Most double electric pumps come with a cooler compartment that can store milk for up to 10 hours. This is ideal and limits having to carry multiple bags to work for your pumping.

While these pumps can be expensive ($200 range), it is well worth it in the end. Most working moms believe that they are actually a necessity.Any product that limits your time and frustration in pumping is a godsend.
