We all dream of being “Queen for a Day”. But “Queen for a Day” at your local day spa could run you up to $800! How can you relax knowing that you’re indulging yourself with that amount of money? Some of us can; some of us just can’t.
What if we told you that you can be “Queen for a Day” without spending an exorbitant amount of money – in the privacy of your own home. You can if you create your own day spa.
Step 1) Plan your spa routine. Have some bottled water and the ingredients you will need available and grouped together the night before your spa day.
Step 2) Get a good night’s sleep.
Step 3) Wake up naturally without an alarm clock and lounge in bed for a few minutes. Let your husband get the kids up.
Step 4) Send your husband and children out for at least a few hours first thing in the morning.
Step 5) You’re finally alone! Strip down and slowly rub a cool washcloth on your face and body. Put on some comfortable workout clothes.
Step 6) Grab a banana or fruit juice for energy, then start on your first bottle of water.
Step 7) Do some calf and hamstring stretches. Go out for a run or walk. Exercise for 20 minutes to an hour. Add some weight and strengthening. Even better, opt for a yoga or Pilates DVD after your walk.
Step 8) Have a light protein-fortified breakfast, such as a veggie egg white omelet or a smoothie and hard boiled egg.
Step 9) Take a cool shower and condition your hair naturally. See below for some conditioning options.
Step 10) Give yourself a facial. Be sure to continue drinking water. See below for some facials to try.
Step 11) Have a snack. Some citrus fruits and cheese and crackers would be ideal.
Step 12) If your hubby hasn’t returned, let us move on. Give your self a foot bath. See below for some options.
Step 13) Treat yourself to a hand treatment and manicure. See below for some options.
Step 14) Lie down and relax or pop in a yoga video until your family returns. You can welcome them back as a new woman!
Option 1: Go Au Natural. Add shine and lift to your hair by combining a mashed soft banana, lemon juice from one lemon, and one egg. Apply the mixture to wet hair, being sure you get the roots and the ends of your hair. Leave on your head for 15-30 minutes, depending on the level of conditioning your hair needs. Wash off with cool water. Shampoo as normal, if desired.

Bring a pan of water to a boil. Empty into a large bowl or plastic container. Be careful not to burn yourself. Set up a small bowl of cool water with rose petals. Have a clean towel on hand.
Prepare your facial treatment.
Option 1: Go Au Natural. As a note, be sure to test any kind of mixture on a small part of your skin at least 24 hours before, to be sure you are not allergic. Choose one of the following homemade masks:
Honey and Oatmeal: For combination skin. Take ½ cup of cooked oatmeal and mix with two tablespoons of homey. Apply to face and neck. Avoid the mouth and eye area. Leave on 30-40 minutes, then rinse.
Avocado: For all skin types. Mash a ripe avocado. Apply to face and neck and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and wipe dry.
Milk & Honey: For dry skin. Mix 1 tablespoon of milk and 3 tablespoons of honey. Apply to face and neck. Avoid the mouth and eye area. Leave on 10-12 minutes, then rinse.
Alpha Hydroxy: For all skin types. Add ½ ripe papaya and 4 strawberries to a blender and blend until smooth. Mix in 1 tablespoon of brewer’s yeast. Apply to face and neck. Avoid the mouth and eye area. Leave on 10-12 minutes, then rinse.

Clean your pores. Stand over your bowl of steaming water for 5-10 minutes, covering your head with a large, clean towel so that the steam hits your face and inundates your pores. Be sure to stand far enough away so as not to burn yourself. Rinse your skin with warm water and pat dry.
Apply the mixture. Apply your facial treatment as directed.
Rinse. Rinse your face with the cool rose water after the facial mask is removed.
Pamper Your Feet
Place one tablespoon dried thyme in a measuring cup and fill with one cup hot water. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then strain. Pour 1 gallon hot water into a large pan or plastic container. Add the thyme solution and 1 tablespoon olive or peanut oil to water and stir. Soak feet in water for 15-20 minutes, adding more hot water if needed. Watch that you do not burn yourself. Wipe feet dry.

Apply an extra moisturizing lotion to feet. Put some white cotton socks on to trap in the moisture.
Dip your cuticles in cuticles softener, then give yourself a manicure. Massage your hands and fingers. Then sit back and relax.
