Pregnancy is one of the greatest moments of a woman’s life. The excitement and wonder of it all fills us with a joy we could never have imagined. Yet, it’s hard to relax and be serene when life as a pregnant woman can be full of stress. If all you had to do all day was lie back on your couch and take leisurely walks around the block, you’d be set, right?
Well, if you’re like the rest of us, your life may not accommodate such a slow pace. Most pregnant women work; some of us have toddlers and children to run after already, not to mention the never ending doctors appointments that we must faithfully attend. How can we feel connected to this wonderful being inside of us, while relieving our stress and pain? Prenatal yoga is the answer. Yoga, an ancient science of physical, emotional, and spiritual well being, means “unity” or “oneness”. Yoga helps us get in touch with ourselves, and prenatal yoga helps us become one with our baby too.
Yoga gives you a sense of wellness, physically and spiritually. Prenatal yoga allows you to concentrate on the challenges of pregnancy by improving and strengthening:
- Stomach muscles – in order to provide support to your baby and to your back
- Spine – to support your back muscles
- Pelvic area – to result in a more ideal birthing experience
Prenatal yoga is also designed to improve blood flow and to promote a healthy pregnancy in general. In addition to the physical benefits, prenatal yoga also provides some emotional benefits. It helps you bond with your baby. While practicing prenatal yoga, you will feel her more closely and be keenly aware of her effects on you.
One-on-one time with your baby is essential. So turn off the TV, put the kids (or the husband) to bed, and become one with your baby.
